Welcome to New York State Department of State’s Report of Accomplishments, 2007-2010.

Thanks in part to our partners in city, town, village and county governments across the state, the Department has made significant strides in building a healthier, safer and more prosperous New York. We have taken our resources and allocated them to the projects and programs that best serve the interests of the people of New York, using a streamlined approach that integrates the work of our numerous divisions under the banner of efficiency and return on investment.

One of our cornerstone achievements has been giving technical and financial assistance to local governments as they work to improve the effectiveness of municipal services, creating a true partnership between local government officials and the department, In this report, you’ll find details on
our successful shared services programs (pp. 9-10) and local waterfront revitalization programs (pp. 13-14) that have positively impacted cities, towns and villages in every region of the state.

Governor Paterson’s focus in bringing about fiscal responsibility, creating healthier communities and promoting sustainable development has been steadfast and has set the tone for our Department as we worked to achieve these goals. I would also like to thank members of the state Legislature for their broad support for programs that improve the value of municipal services, reduce property taxes and enhance water quality — in their districts and across New York.

Attached you will find the report, which is also available on our website.

Thank you for working with us, and we hope these diverse and innovative programs only grow in value and scope in the coming years.

Sincerely,

Lorraine Cortés-Vázquez
Secretary of State
